Bucket Hats

Picture
BUCKET HAT BASICS AND MORE!
The bucket hat’s popularity is for good reason and it’s comeback is here to stay. This trendy piece not only accentuates your personal style, it also offers protection from the sun.
In this class we review a broad variety of fabrics, interfacings, stitches and accessories which, combined, impact the final structure of the hat and your desired results. We also discuss techniques and unique tools that add a professional finish to this and
all your creations.
Make it a simple project while practicing your curves, or accessorize it with a personalized embroidery, grommets, snaps, chin straps, d-rings, decorative stitches and more. This class allows time for honing your skills as we are creating two hats at once, making it fully reversible.
From start to finish we’ll walk through methods for choosing fabrics, selecting and fusing interfacing, layout, cutting, marking, and all steps of construction.
Whether you’re new to sewing, or a novice sewist, this class is a fun adventure for everyone!

Upcycled Jeans Backpack

Description:SeabagUpcycling project with old jeans.
Each of us has a pair(s) of old jeans in the wardrobe that we would never wear again. Instead of just throwing them away, we have a much better suggestion - why not sew a casual duffel bag out of them? Jeans fabric is not only versatile, but also durable, robust and always modern! Besides, with this upcycling project you are also doing something good for the environment.
This class is an overview of the process for deconstructing your jeans and then the construction of the duffel bag.  The pattern is free to download, or we can provide color copies for $8 (this  just covers the cost of copying)
If you want to prepurchase your copy (or ask for download), and come to class with your jeans deconstructed, class time can be used for bag construction.

I FOUND A QUILTED HEART

Picture
Patty found this fun program called "I found a Quilted Heart ".
We're going to be making hearts on 2 separate dates January 24th and February 6th. Then we will put hearts on display until February 14th so we can advertise this fun project! At that time hearts will be distributed locally in public places!

Would you like to create handmade quilted hearts to participate in this project? The original heart is in the photo above. It was inspiration for the IFAQH hearts. Hearts are made of fabric, generally the size of your palm, and can be any shape of heart you choose. Most have a layer of batting or fiberfill and you can embellish with buttons, sequins, ribbon, etc.  Have fun with your creative process! Tags are then provided if you want to participate in the project!
How the project started (an excerpt condensed from the IFAQH website) :
The most random thing happened while vacationing in Nevada.  Three sisters and our husbands took a day trip to Valley of Fire State Park. After an afternoon of hiking, exploring, and soaking in the beauty, we drove to Rainbow Vista where the husbands searched a cave off in the distance.  Following a deserted trail around the back side of the cave, the most incredible gift was found: a little quilted heart with a tag reading, “I need a home.”
Well, it certainly found a perfect home! We may never know who placed that quilted heart in the desert of Nevada, but we are thankful for it. This beautiful little heart started a whole new purpose for us; blessing others with the same simple act of kindness.

So..once you've made your heart, tag it, then it is time to be placed in a public place to be found by a random stranger.

Will you be a part of God's plan
to be a blessing to someone today?

BEGINNING QUILTING / LEARN TO QUILT

Picture
This beginning quilting class will teach you the basics of quilting and help you make a quilt out of 3 yards of fabric using the pattern and fabric of you choice. We have an array of patterns to choose from. Attend any or all classes. No experience necessary.
Class fee: $15 per class   Instructor: BeckyA SERIES OF 6 CLASSES. CLASSES OFFERED: 2ND AND 4TH TUESDAYS 4:30PM-7:30PM (some scheduled changes may be necessary)AND  2ND AND 4TH THURSDAYS 10AM – 1PM

CLASS FEE $15 EACH ($90 FOR ALL 6) MAY BE TAKEN INDIVIDUALLY) At Times due to Becky’s schedule classes may be moved to an alternate Tuesday or Thursday
We have changed our beginning quilting classes to make them more flexible, and fun. Instead of all of us doing the same pattern, we are now working from a series of books which have several patterns each for making "Three Yard Quilts". These patterns are available at the shop, and there are kits already made up, or you can pick out your own three fabrics. The patterns make a quilt that is a nice size for a baby quilt, or a small throw. Becky or someone else at the shop can help you enlarge it if you want to make these easy patterns larger too.

We are also no longer trying to have everybody on the same schedule for what they are doing. This has been working out very well, with people coming as they are able in their busy schedules, and working on whatever stage they are.

The Steps In Making a Quilt
1. Planning things and basic safety. Deciding on the pattern, getting the fabrics, collecting the notions, like the rotary cutter, mat, pins, etc. Deciding on sewing by hand, or using a working sewing machine.
2. Learning how to safely cut the fabric with the rotary cutter into strips and needed shapes. Sewing the basic units and blocks. Talking about sashings, and general construction.
3. Putting together the center of the top.
4. Adding borders, if wanted.
5. Sandwiching and quilting the quilt.
6. Adding the binding, or finishing the edge of the quilt in some other way.

Our BEGINNING QUILTING classes are designed for those interested in learning quilting skills and techniques from A to Z. Join our talented, long time instructor, Becky Shippy, as she guides you through the process of quilt making from beginning to end. Whether you need to choose fabrics, learn how to measure or attach binding, or are interested in instruction on the final quilting process, this is the ideal class for you! Come be a part of our ever growing quilting community.
